According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
- Children today are more likely to live shorter lives than their parents for the first time in recorded history, due to health issues associated with poor nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle.
- 2/3 of adults and 1/5 of our children in this country are obese
or overweight.
- 60% of adults are not regularly active and 25% are not active
at all.
- Almost half of our children ages 12 to 21 are not vigorously active.
- Those who don't exercise regularly and eat balanced, nutritious meals have vastly increased chances of developing a chronic disease such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and stroke.
We believe communities can turn this trend around, one person at a time, by working together. Live Healthy Red Wing works with local organizations and individuals to create policies and environmental changes that will make our city a healthier place to live--today and in the future.
